Abstract
Shawnee-språket, et algonkinsk språk, snakkes av Shawnee-folket i Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky og Indiana, men de fleste bor nå i Oklahoma etter tvangsflytting.
Ordboken ble laget 1979–1981, basert på rundt 300 talere, gamle tekster og forskning.
Det finnes to dialekter: sør/vestlig (Absentee Shawnee) og østlig (Loyal Shawnee, Eastern Shawnee, Bird Creek).
Shawnee ligner på Kickapoo, med noe gjensidig forståelse. Ordboken bidrar til å bevare språket og kulturen.
